Venkaiah Naidu elected as next Vice President of India

Venkaiah Naidu got 516 votes against opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi’s 244, said election officer Shemsher K Sharif.

Conceding his defeat, Opposition nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi said: “The election saw two victories - one of Naidu, another offree speech; the second victory belongs to all the people of India.” PTI

Venkaiah Naidu, along with his wife Usha, daughter Deepa Venkat and granddaughter Sushma at his residence in New Delhi. A two-term member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha three times from Karnataka. He represented Rajasthan in the Upper House of Parliament before he was nominated to the vice president’s post by the NDA. PTI
