There's this scene in Cast Away, almost at the climax, when Tom Hanks returns to civilization and shaves his mangy beard. The difference between how he looked for the five years that he was "cast away" and how he looked post a shave is almost unimaginable.
For 44-year-old Amit, or 'Mook' as he is fondly known,the transformation was similar. This Isreali man had a thick tuft of a beard for 14 years of his life and when he shaved it, his family almost couldn't recognise him!
This event is a part of an ad for M6 razor blades, which chronicles Amit's shaving journey in a 3 minute heart warming video titled 'My New Face'. His daughter's expression upon seeing her dad's shaved face for the first time is priceless.
In an Adweek article, the agency behind the ad admits that they wanted to try a different approach to promote their brand, since their direct competition is with the likes of Gillette. They very soon realised traditional advertising would not work and they were willing to experiment with a documentary format.
"This was a gutsy decision by the client, who rolled with us, and so far, the movie has garnered over 430,000 views in under a week," says Eva Hasson, who works with an Isreali ad agency BBR. BBR along with Saatchi and Saatchi Tel Aviv produced and conceptualised this ad.
