Puns, animals and doodling. Musician Nitin Mani's art is quite a sight to behold

Eclectic art. Rhymed madness. Weaved together with a pinch of salt.

Nitin Mani has made quite a name for himself in the Indian music scene. Between selling bulldozer parts and playing the bass guitar, Mani has another quirky hobby that has been stunning his fans beyond the stage. The musician also dabbles with being an artist, with over 80 intricate doodles to his name.

As to how he began doodling, Mani has quite an interestingly ambidextrous backstory. “When I was 10, I was left handed and could draw a bit. But the numerous cursive writing books changed it to the right hand and out went the drawing,” he quipped.

“Cut to 30 years later playing music in the city (still right handed) and scribbling mindlessly around the crosswords, is when an idea came as to why not have some fun with a play on words with the names of animals, it became therapeutic.” In over a year, the artist has made a humble fan following with his doodles.

Nitin, who often shares the stage with the band Mir’s Bandage and was also formerly a part of The Supersonics, continues to chase his passion for music in Kolkata. He continues to be an integral part of the local Kolkata music scene, taking the bassist role for many popular bands from the city.

With his rustic animal sketches laced with puns and wordplay, Mani continues to spread the love with his penchant for art.
