Responding toRahul Gandhi’s ‘suit boot ki sarkar’ jibe, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said “Suit boot is definitely more acceptable than suitcase.” [caption id=“attachment_2206538” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Rahul Gandhi with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi at the recently-held Kisan Rally. Image courtesy: Naresh Sharma[/caption] Seeking to shed the anti-poor tag given to his government by the Opposition with regard to the land acquisition bill, he said, “After 60 years, the Congress has suddenly remembered the poor… You should ask them, ‘If you were pro-poor, why does poverty still exist in India’?” “After ruling for 60 years, the Congress has suddenly remembered the poor. People of this country have suffered and remained poor due to shortsighted policies of the Congress,” he told ANI. “Someone finds meanings for the acronym M.O.D.I., some say NDA is MNDA, some call us arrogant, others discuss a suit or a boot, or coat or hair. Just look at their bankruptcy, they are not able to identify a single concrete issue. This is the greatest achievement of this government,” Modi told daily newspaper The Tribune On Sunday, Twitter picked up on the Prime Minister’s comments and #SuitCaseKiParty started trending. Most of the tweets targeted the Congress party’s scams and its hypocrisy in calling the current government ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’.
