NDA’s candidate Radhakrishnan has most recently served as the Governor of Maharashtra. He was previously the Governor of Jharkhand and a Lok Sabha MP. In a previous role as the BJP’s chief of the Tamil Nadu unit, he is considered to have played an important role in establishing the party in the state.
INDIA bloc’s Reddy is a former judge of the Supreme Court. He retired in 2011. He is the first former SC judge to run for the vice presidency.
The NDA had 427 votes. The fact that its candidate got 452 votes suggests that people from outside of the NDA indulged in cross-voting.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) abstained from the election.
