Fans of AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa are known across the country for their unwavering loyalty towards their ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Amma’ and as the Karnataka High Court acquitted the former Tamil Nadu chief minister of all charges of corruption, they made little effort to hide their joy. Be it outside the Karnataka HC, Jayalalithaa’s residence in Chennai’s Poes Gardens or in her constituency Srirangam, her supporters came out on the streets to show how happy they were. Party cadres jumped in joy, burst crackers and danced to the drum beats. They chanted “Long Live Amma” and distributed sweets. Some also smashed coconuts on the ground, as an auspicious sign. Karate master Shihan Hussaini is even thinking of getting crucified again in thanks-giving to God for former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s acquittal in the disproportionate assets case. In February this year, the 46-year-old Hussaini got himself crucified for the return of Jayalalithaa as the Tamil Nadu chief minister after she was convicted by a trial court in Bangalore in the disproportionate assets case. A PTI report said that according to Sri Meenakshi Amman temple officials, at least 300 special poojas were performed in a week in the name of the AIADMK chief. “Fishermen also joined the celebrations, hoping Jayalalithaa’s return to the CM post will improve their condition,” reported The Times of India. An
NDTV report says, “Women party workers in several parts of the state organised traditional processions with milk pots, lamps were lit and many coconuts offered in temples to pray for “the return of Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister”.” And it was not just party workers and supporters, AIADMK MPs too were jubilant over Jaya’s acquittal and some of them were seen breaking down after hearing the news. The AIADMK official website also went through a see change to mark Amma’s acquittal. There were firwork GIFs in a green background (the AIADMK colour), with the cutout of a smiling and waving Jayalalithaa right in the middle. This is also accompanied
