The sister of the slain Indian prisoner has said that both countries needed to ensure the security of prisoners.

Slain Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur has expressed sympathy over the death of Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay in an Indian prisoner and said the case only highlighted the need for greater security within prisons.

“Whatever happened with Sanaullah Haq was very bad and shouldn’t have taken place. I express my sympathy to his family in this hour of grief,” Dalbir Kaur, deceased Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh ‘s sister, said today.

Sanaullah was in a Jammu jail on charges of being involved in a terrorist strike when he was attacked by a fellow inmate. He died in a Chandigarh hospital today

“I would appeal to the Indian prisoners not to follow in Pakistan’s footsteps,” she said.

She also appealed to both the Indian & Pakistani government to increase the security of prisoners in the respective country’s jails so that such incidents were not repeated.

Sarabjit Singh, who was on death row in a Pakistani jail over allegations of being involved in a terror strike, had been brutally attacked by fellow prisoners and died due to his injuries.
