As India’s 69th Independence Day draws closer, there is a novel way of paying tribute to the Armed Forces doing the rounds on social media - the #SaluteSelfie [caption id=“attachment_2392316” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] MS DHoni’s #SaluteSelfie Image Credit: Twitter @msdhoni[/caption] While hashtags have been used for contests and jokes, this is one that is actually aimed at a positive development — firstly, to thank our troops and secondly, to let them know that the country is thinking about them. With several ceasefire violations in the past month, as well as a few terrorist attacks near the border, this is an ideal time to let the soldiers know that they matter. The explainer video mentions that more than 10,000 selfies have reached our soldiers, even as more continue to pour in. The #SaluteSelfie Twitter trend, promoted by the Reliance Group, has seen the participation of a number of prominent celebrities from all fields, as well as numerous users from all over India. From MS Dhoni to Amitabh Bachchan, the #SaluteSelfie has brought together many celebrities in tribute.
