Ratan Tata, who died in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday, will be cremated with full state honours. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has also declared a day of mourning on Thursday to honour the late industrialist

Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of the Tata Group, who passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 86 after a long illness, will be cremated in Mumbai’s Worli crematorium on Thursday with full state honours.

The Maharashtra government-led by Eknath Shinde has also declared a day of mourning on Thursday (October 10) to honour the visionary industrialist.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the national flag will be flown at half-mast across government offices in the state on Thursday as a mark of respect. All the entertainment events scheduled for the day have been cancelled.

The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be taken to the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) Lawns, in Mumbai’s Nariman Point around 10:30 am. on Thursday, where people can pay their last respects and homage to the departed soul.

“At 4:00 pm, the mortal remains will embark on its final journey to the Prayer Hall at the Worli Crematorium, Dr E Moses Road, Worli,” a statement said.

Will always remember determination of Ratan Tata after 2008 Mumbai attack

In a post on X, Shinde said, “Everyone will always remember the determination shown by him after the 2008 Mumbai attack. His firm decisions, courageous attitude and social commitment will always be remembered.

“The last rites of late Ratanji Tata will be performed with full state honours,” the CM added.  

Ratan Tata, who is also remembered for his charitable work, passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. He had been in the hospital due to health issues related to his age.  

Ratan Tata led the Tata Group from 1991 to 2012 and played a key role in its growth.

It was Ratan Tata who started Tata Teleservices, the group’s telecom company in 1996, and then in 2004, he launched the IPO of Tata Consultancy Services, the group’s IT arm.  

Even after stepping down in 2012, he continued to hold the honorary title of chairman emeritus for several Tata companies, including Tata Sons, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and Tata Chemicals.

Amit Shah to attend Ratan Tata’s funeral

The Prime Minister departed for a two-day visit to Laos to attend the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend Ratan Tata’s funeral on behalf of the Government of India.
