In the backdrop of the beef ban, the BJP government in Maharashtra has decided to ensure Marathi movies play across multiplexes at prime time, a decision that angered many across Twitter and one of them was author Shobhaa De. But after a set of tweets criticising the Maharashtra government’s decision, she faced the rude shock of having a privilege motion moved against her in the Maharashtra assembly.
Here’s what De tweeted after the Maharashtra’s government’s decision was announced:
Devendra 'Diktatwala' Fadnavis is at it again!!!From beef to movies. This is not the Maharashtra we all love! Nako!Nako! Yeh sab roko!

I love Marathi movies. Let me decide when and where to watch them, Devendra Fadnavis. This is nothing but Dadagiri.

No more pop corn at multiplexes in Mumbai? Dahi misal and vada pav only. To go better with the Marathi movies at prime time .

While speaking to Times Now, De also said, “It is a kind of dictatorial policy which will be challenged. You cannot impose such rules.”
On Wednesday, Pratap Sarnaik, an MLA from Shiv Sena, moved a privilege motion against De in the Maharashtra, demanding an apology for her remarks that he said were offensive to Maharashtrians, according to CNN IBN.
However, the motion was still to be accepted by the Speaker.
After hearing about the privilege motion, De tweeted pledging her loyalty to the state and saying that she was a proud Maharashtra and would always will be one.
Now a privilege motion demanding an apology from me? Come on! I am a proud Maharashtrian and love Marathi films. Always have. Always will !

Twitterati came out in support of the author saying that she was being targeted needlessly:
Shobha de: yipee!! 66A revoked..nw I can tweet my views without any fear!!!

@ShobhaDe Keep it up for your ability to speak up against regressive political leadership, which is uneducated / unexposed / visionless.
