No more hate politics: Thousands of Indians, Pakistanis upload selfies with #profileforpeace

Mumbaikar Ram Subramaniam had no idea that a simple hashtag that he used would start a nation-wide campaign. Keeping with the recent rising tensions between Indian and Pakistan, Subramaniam on Thursday used  #profileforpeace with a selfie, in which he held a note that read “I am an Indian. I am from Mumbai. I don’t hate Pakistan. I am not alone. There are many people like me.”

#ProfileForPeace enough of banning Pakistani artists. Enough hate politics. Make a similar profile picture. #SpeakUp pic.twitter.com/xuUFoMuJEl

— Ram Subramanian (@iramsubramanian) October 22, 2015

Further in his caption he invited anyone else who shares his thoughts to join and promote the campaign.

Dear Shiv Sena,
Stop your hate mongering.
Friends, RT if you feel the same & do it.#ProfileForPeace #SpeakUp pic.twitter.com/SQE0YKVHSz

His post went viral in a few hours and after thousands of shares on social media portals like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, people from Pakistan also started joining the campaign by posting their selfies. With a note mentioning where they are from Pakistan, and that they don’t hate Indians, many additional selfies and posts emerged.
