Neighbour rapes toddler in Delhi, girl remains critical

A five-year-old girl is battling for her life at an ICU of a Delhi hospital after she was allegedly raped and her throat slit in yet another horrific incident of sexual assault against woman in the national capital.

The doctors treating the girl have confirmed serious injuries to her private parts and mutilation of her genitals. The doctors fear that due to presence of foreign objects in her body the infection might spread.

“Foreign objects like candle and oil bottle were found in her body. We can tell about her condition only after 24 to 48 hours of observation. As of now her condition is critical,” RK Bansal, physician, Swami Dayanand Hospital where the girl is currently treated told CNN-IBN.

No arrest has been made so far but police suspect a neighbour’s hand behind the crime. The neighbour is on the run at present. He stayed nearby as a tenant of the girl’s family.

The family members of the girl complained about police apathy in handling the case and said had the girl been found before she could have escaped this trauma. The girl went missing on 15 April and was found by another neighbour on 18 April.

“When we went to the police to ask then wht they are doing about the case. They told us that we should be happy that the girl has been found and pray for her recovery. That’s where the matter ends,” a relative of the girl told CNN-IBN.

Demanding justice from the government, the mother of the girl said, “She went out to play two days back when she was kidnapped. The man then locked her up in his room and raped her. I want justice from the government.”

The family stays in East Delhi.
