The Vyapam scam or the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam is known as India’s most notorious scam for one main reason – more than 40 people associated with the scam have died since the story broke in 2013. The deaths include both accused and witnesses and have largely been under mysterious circumstances. [caption id=“attachment_2327818” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] The logo of the MPPEB board.[/caption] And, now two more people have died under mysterious circumstances in the last two days. One was Dr Arun Sharma, Dean of a Jabalpur Medical College and the other, Aaj Tak journalist Akshay Singh. However, despite the increasing number of deaths, the complete lack of regard of the ruling party to conduct a CBI probe into these mysterious deaths, despite pressure from the opposition, has not gone down well with the public. On Sunday, ‘Khooni Vyapam’ started trending on Twitter and jumped in no time to become the top India trend, with people using the hashtag to voice out their anger against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government’s silence on the issue. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan also came under fire for not initiating a probe. Defending his government for not initiating a probe by the Central Bureau Investigation, Chouhan said the High Court ruled against a probe by the agency. On the other hand, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley condoled the death of Singh on Sunday but made no mention of a CBI probe. Later in the day, Jaitley told ANI that a fair enquiry must be held so that all doubts are at rest. Here are some tweets on the Vyapam scam that made the hashtag a top trend:
Vyapam: 32 deaths aged 25-30 in 3 yrs. annual death rate in category < 2.5/1000. even with 2000 accused approaches statistical impossibility

Will it need #Nirbhaya like street protests before @PMOIndia @narendramodi orders CBI Inquiry into #vyapam deaths? https://t.co/hXSk4NgF4T
