Eight people in a marriage party died after they were crushed by a truck in Jharkhand’s coal city Dhanbad, police said Saturday.
According to the police, the marriage of Anup Singh, a resident of Jamshedpur, was to take place Friday night in Dhanbad district.
The guests were put up in a hotel and were headed to the bridegroom’s house with a traditional baraat, where they were dancing and singing on the road near Mugama locality. A truck ran over 11 guests of the party.
Five people died on the spot and three have been admitted to the hospital. Their condition is said to be serious.
The truck, after crushing the 11 guests, drove on for around 500 meters. The driver managed to escape.
