With the raging tensions between India and Pakistan , reports are emerging that India has shot down two Pakistani fighter jets. Government sources told CNN News18 that the jets were shot down on Saturday. As per the source, one of the Pakistani jets was shot down near Lasjan, Srinagar, and the second one was shot down in North Kashmir.
While there is no official confirmation of the incident , some reports indicated that these jets could be F-16s. However, Firstpost cannot verify what jets were shot down by the Indian forces. Government sources have also confirmed that there was a dog fight between the air assets of both the nations.
Meanwhile, surface-to-air missile systems were activated in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar area, ANI reported. Heavy engagements are still going on with Pakistan over Srinagar and adjoining areas. Sources close to the matter told News18 that the search for the Pakistani pilots is underway after the jets crashed.
Smoke was also seen rising after a loud explosion was heard in the Dibber area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. Civilians’ houses and properties were damaged in the Rajouri region following a continuous series of explosions. Loud explosions were also heard in Rajouri and Akhnoor in J&K.
A day after Pakistan’s effort to target civilian infrastructure was foiled by Indian forces, Pakistani drones were again sighted in Jammu, Samba and Pathankot sectors on Friday.
Earlier this week, India conducted a precision strike against nine Pakistani terrorist camps under Operation Sindoor. The operation came as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which Pakistan-linked terrorists infiltrated a tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people and sending shockwaves across India.
