Hugs, chai pe charcha and hotline for chatting: The fascinating bromance of Modi, Obama

President Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are new best friends in town. And, as Modi claims he will now call Obama and chat with him as they have set up a new hotline. PTI[/caption] Prime Minister Modi’s “super hot” chemistry with Obama has built slowly but surely over a period of a few months, and it is the most talked about thing around the World since the US President’s three-day visit started on Sunday. We witnessed some great broments on Sunday when Modi and Obama met. Here are some of the best ones: The now famous Modi-Obama hug Beginning with the most publicised Modi-Obama hug at the airport to their bromance filled joint press statement in Hyderabad House, the two leaders seemed to enjoy each other’s company and ended up embracing each other several times during the day. A Times of India report quoted Modi acknowledging the personal chemistry, talking about their forged friendship, the openness they share in their relationship and their personal chemistry. But talk of their bromance all started with this hug.

The firm grip on each others backs, smiles on their faces reveal mutual happiness at their reunion. Here’s an even better picture of the famous Modi-Obama hug.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Walking together on the lawn The camaraderie continued when Modi took Obama for a walk on the Hyderabad house lawns that was televised repeatedly throughout the day by various media outlets. This was in fact one of their important ‘steps’. Obama and Modi achieved a breakthrough on long-stalled cooperation on civilian nuclear projects, reflecting warming ties between the nations.

Chai pe Charcha or bromance The two leaders ended their brief stroll under a specially designed canopy to have tea, as the former chaiwallah, PM Modi himself poured out a cup for his guest.

Post by Narendra Modi.

The MEA even tweeted a picked of the brief tea meeting. The symbolism of the event was not lost on Obama who even made a brief mention of Modi’s Chai pe Charcha in his speech later on in the day.

Modi’s gifts to Obama and Michelle: On a request from PM Modi, weavers from his Varanasi constituency were ready with a special gift for Michelle Obama - over 100 banarasi saris. Modi also gifted the official report of the Constituent Assembly debates to US President Barack Obama and a copy of the first telegram from America to India’s Constituent Assembly. The telegram, headlined “Message of Goodwill”, was read out at the inaugural sitting of the Constituent Assembly of India Dec 9, 1946.

And, how Obama loved his new ‘dost’ Modi’s kurtas Like all other best friends who also admire each other, President Obama said called Modi a style icon. “The Prime Minister is a style icon. I would also like to wear Modi kurta,” the President said in reference to the PM’s pet dress. According to media reports, Modi wore his favourite kurta at the airport while receiving the US President. Awwww! Whispering during R-day parade The next hug took place after the leaders made a joint address to the media and announced a historic breakthrough in the nuclear deal talks.

The bromance continued during the Republic Day parade where Modi and Obama can be seen whispering in each others ears. In fact, Modi too acknowledged the chemistry. He said: “Barack and I have forged a friendship. There is openness with which we talk, we can talk comfortably over phone, joke with each other… This chemistry has not only brought me and Barack close or Washington and Delhi nearer but also the people of two countries. This personal chemistry matters a lot."
