The ‘meat ban’ which started in Maharashtra’s Mira-Bhayandar belt for the Jain fasting period of ‘Paryushan’ seems to be quite a contagious trend. From a eight-day ban in the area, to a four-day ban all over Mumbai, it has now it has spread up north to Gujarat and Rajasthan as well. [caption id=“attachment_2429758” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Representational image. Reuters[/caption] In fact, Rajasthan has gone a step further and ordered a ban on sale of fish as well, considering they are not a coastal state. Similarly, in Ahmedabad, Police Commissioner Shivanand Jha ordered ban on slaughter of cattle like cows and goats, for a week issuing a public notification which bars people from slaughtering animals outside authorised slaughter houses as well as at any other private or public place, which is visible to the public. Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, the High Court ordered ban on sale of beef, weeks before the festival of Eid which triggered further controversy. As expected, this avalanche of ban on meat lead to severe outrage and questioning the administration’s agenda. And as expected, this was was mainly vented on Twitter, the outraged’s favorite social media platform. Some of it was funny, in typical Twitter style while most of it was had-hitting and critical. Here is how Indian Twitterati reacted to the multiple meat bans imposed in a span of few days.
Let's lift the ban on good governance.
