Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally opened up about the fun moment involving Virat Kohli during his maiden ODI century, revealing why the senior batter was teasing him at the crease. Jaiswal slammed a ton during the third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam earlier this month. He, along with Kohli, who slammed a quickfire 65, helped India win the match and take the series home.
After the match, a video went viral, in which Kohli was seen teasing Jaiswal on the sidelines with their teammates watching and laughing. In a recent interview, the young opener shared that Kohli was making light-hearted jokes about his hairstyle, comparing him to Salman Khan’s character ‘Radhe’ from the movie Tere Naam. The left-hander said Kohli kept teasing him by singing the song “Lagan Lag Gayi Re” and even dancing a little.
Here’s what Jaiswal said about Kohli
“There is a song called Lagan Lag Gayi Re, so paaji (Kohli) was telling me to do some dance steps like that. It was a lot of fun talking about it. Even when I was going in to bat, he was saying those things to me. Paaji’s sense of humour is very classy. He understands things instantly. So it’s a lot of fun being with paaji," Jaiswal told journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel.
“He is very cheerful off the field, but when he is in complete focus, the whole world knows what he can do. By staying with him and playing alongside him, you get to learn a lot. I really enjoy playing with him,” he added.
Jaiswal also spoke about working closely with Kohli in the nets ahead of his Test debut. He explained how they regularly discuss technical aspects of batting, such as body position, footwork, and how to avoid getting stuck at the crease. According to Jaiswal, these conversations have helped him improve his game significantly.
Jaiswal was last seen playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mumbai. He even scored a century against Haryana in the Super League Group A match but failed to qualify for the final due to inferior net run rate. Jaiswal is expected to return to the national setup for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
