India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav provided some good news regarding Shreyas Iyer on Tuesday, sharing that the batter is “stable” and “replying” to messages. Iyer has been in the hospital since Saturday after he suffered a ribcage injury while taking a sensational catch during the India-Australia third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Iyer was quickly moved to the hospital and later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as his vitals dropped significantly and he suffered internal bleeding. It has been revealed that Iyer suffered from a laceration to the spleen, which could have been fatal, but timely treatment has stabilised his condition.
Suryakumar provides latest update on Iyer’s treatment
He was moved out of the ICU on Monday and providing further updates on his recovery, Suryakumar said that Iyer’s condition is improving.
“When I got to know about his injury, I called our physio Kamlesh Jain to get the update. Iyer has been replying on the phone now which means he is stable,” Suryakumar told the media on Tuesday.
“Doctors are there with him, he’s speaking with people too, so it’s looking good. He will be monitored for the next few days.”
To closely monitor Iyer’s progress, the BCCI has asked Team India’s doctor to stay back with him in Sydney, while the batter also has his friends by his side.
SKY, who is in Australia as well, added that he would take Iyer back to India when he returns.
“It is unfortunate what happened and these cases are very rare. But rare things happen to rare talent like Shreyas Iyer. By god’s grace, everything is fine. Sath hi le jayenge usko ghar (We will take with him to India after the series),” Surya added.
