Ravindra Jadeja said missing out on his century was “part and parcel of the game”, but expressed satisfaction with his performance with the ball on Day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday.

Jadeja became the first Indian batter to fall on Day 2, getting dismissed on 86 without adding to his overnight score of, getting caught-behind off Taskin Ahmed’s bowling as his marathon partnership with Ashwin for the seventh-wicket ended just one run short of the 200-mark.

Ashwin, meanwhile, would add another 11 to his overnight score, having brought up his sixth Test hundred on Thursday afternoon, as India were eventually bundled out for 376 — a massive improvement from the 144/6 that they found themselves in at one stage of their innings.

Jadeja would late chip in with a couple of wickets in quick succession, removing set batters Litton Das (22) and Shakib Al Hasan (32) in back-to-back overs after the pair briefly fought back with a 51-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

India eventually bowled Bangladesh out for a paltry 149 , powered by Jasprit Bumrah’s 4/50, collecting a huge 227-run first innings lead.

“I got out today but it’s part and parcel of the game. Now we have to put up a good score on the board in the second innings. I am very happy with my bowling, the way I went through today. It’s a good opportunity to take the 300th wicket on this ground,” Jadeja said in a chat with the broadcasters after stumps on Friday.

India skipper Rohit Sharma however, opted against enforcing follow-on, with the hosts ending the day on 81/3 after a shaky start to their second innings. No 3 batter Shubman Gill was batting on 33 at close of play with Rishabh Pant on 12 for company, and Jadeja felt adding another 120-150 runs on the board would put the hosts in a good position.

“First we have to bat very well, we have to put somewhere around 120-150 from hereon. We’ll be in a good position and then we’ll come out and bowl and try and get them out as early as possible. (Pitch) It’s pretty good for batting but there’s still something in the wicket for the fast bowlers,” Jadeja added.

India currently lead by 308 runs and in pole position to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series.
