After becoming the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to take 450 Test wickets on Day 1 of the India vs Australia Test, Ravichandran Ashwin equalled the spin legend for most five-wicket hauls (25) in India in Tests on Saturday.

Ashwin removed Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Peter Handscomb and Alex Carey to complete his 31st five-wicket haul and 25th at home. With 25 five-wicket hauls in Tests, Ashwin is joint third with Kumble in the list of bowlers with the most fifers in a country. Sri Lanka legends Muttiah Muralidaran (45) and Rangana Herath (26) are only ahead of them. Ashwin is seventh in the list of most five-wicket hauls in Tests with 25 fifers, only behind James Anderson (32) among active cricketers. On Day 1 of the match, Ashwin had become the second-fastest to 450 Test wickets, surpassing Kumble. Ashwin achieved the feat in 89 Tests, while Kumble achieved the same in 93 matches. Muralitharan is the fastest as he reached the landmark only in 80 Tests. Ashwin finished the innings with match figures of 5/37 as Australia were bowled out for 91.
