Uncapped Spinners Set 1 turns out to be the final list, with veteran tweaker Piyush – the second-most successful bowler in IPL history – going unsold!

With that, Day 1 of the mega auction comes to an end and was it one of the most dramatic days in IPL auction history or not! Money flowed like never before as the pair of Rishabh Pant (Rs 27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 crore) ended up fetching a combined bid exceeding Rs 50 crore!

PBKS make the first bid for the pacer who was part of the Lucknow Super Giants last season, fighting off a rival bid from Gujarat Titans, with the two players taking his price past the crore mark. GT eventually back out as PBKS acquire him for Rs 1.6 crore.

Ex GT, RR and SRH pacer Kartik Tyagi, however, goes unsold.

The Karnataka seamer, who had earned his maiden India call-up for the tour of South Africa recently, receives an opening bid from SRH with GT also entering the race.

Punjab Kings, however, wait until the bid has crossed the crore-mark, and eventually secure him for Rs 1.8
crore as the Titans bow out and RCB decide against using their RTM.

Mohit, who is also treated as an ‘Uncapped’ player like his former India and Chennai Super Kings teammate MS Dhoni, gets an opening bid from GT, for whom he had played a key role in their 2022 title triumph as well as in their run to the final next season.

Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans take the bid past Rs 2 crore, with the former eventually securing him for Rs 2.2 crore!

RCB make the first bid for the Kashmiri pacer, with SRH joining the race soon after. The two franchises are involved in a bidding war that is fierce enough for Rasikh’s price to shoot all the way to Rs 6 crore from his base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Delhi Capitals have the option of retaining him at that price, and they decide against doing so after a rather long discussion.

Aryan Juyal fetches a similar bid from Lucknow Super Giants as ex-RCB keeper Rawat does from GT, both players getting picked at their base price.

Kerala’s Vishnu Vinod, meanwhile, goes to Punjab Kings for Rs 95 lakh after a bidding war with KKR, and later MI.

Upendra Yadav and Luvnith Sisodia, however, are unsold, which brings us to the end of the Uncapped Wicketkeepers’ Set 1 list.

Mumbai Indians replace one wicket-keeper batter from Jharkhand with another, securing Robin Minz for Rs 65 lakh after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings.

Minz had been bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.6 crore last season but could not make his debut thanks to an injury. However, he will hope to realise his dream of playing in the world’s biggest T20 league while representing MI.

With the Jharkhand cricketer going unsold at his base price of Rs 30 lakh, we’ve arrived at the end of Uncapped All-Rounders Set 1.

Next up is Uncapped Wicket-keepers Set 1, which will comprise Kumar Kushagra, Aryan Juyal, Kumar Kushagra, Robin Minz, Anuj Rawat, Luvnith Sisodia, Vishnu Vinod, Upendra Yadav

Ashutosh was expected to fetch a fairly handsome amount after impressing with the bat in the PBKS middle-order last season, and sure enough RR and RCB commence a bidding war for the batting all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi Capitals later join the bidding war and take it past the crore-mark. PBKS later enter the race after RCB back out, taking the price past Rs 3 crore.

DC, however, decided to stick to Ashutosh and help him earn a big payday.

The seam-bowling all-rounder, who was part of India’s squad for the 2019 World Cup in England, receives an opening bid from CSK with GT, the team he had last represented in the IPL, following them and raising the bid past the crore-mark.

Chennai Super Kings, however, secure the Tamil Nadu all-rounder in the end.

The Kings however, aren’t the first to raise their paddle for the left-arm orthodox spinner, doing so only after LSG make the opening bid at his base price of Rs 30 lakh.

The price eventually goes past the crore-mark, with Mumbai Indians making a last-minute entry before backing out, allowing Punjab to buy Brar back.

Sunrisers Hyderabad decide against using their lone RTM card, which they can only use on an uncapped player, as Jammu and Kashmir’s Samad becomes Lucknow Super Giants’ latest recruit after the franchise survives a fierce scrap with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Later PBKS drive the price past the 4-crore mark, but LSG appear to have made up their mind at this point.

Mumbai Indians decide to make use of their lone RTM card, which they can only use on an uncapped player after Rajasthan Royals secure the Punjab spin-bowling all-rounder for Rs 3.4 crore. So Dhir is their sixth and final retention from the 2024 squad!

MI had opened the bid for Dhir and soon find themselves in a bidding war with RCB that takes the price past the crore-mark from his base price of Rs 30 lakh.

DC later join the race, replacing RCB, taking the price past Rs 2 crore. RR and PBKS later join the race and the former appears to have closed in on the player – until Mumbai decide make use to the RTM.

Manohar had a terrific run in the Maharaja Trophy recently, where he had scored 507 runs at a strike rate of 196. RCB are the first to bid for him and CSK follow suit, with the southern rivals taking the price past Rs 1 crore.

Gujarat Titans later join the race after RCB back out, and take the price past Rs 2 crore. Eventually, both CSK and GT are out as SRH raise the price to Rs 2.8 crore. KKR make a last minute entry, taking the price past the 3 crore mark before Hyderabad can secure the deal.

Nair, who had famously scored a Test triple century against England in Chennai, enters the auction in the ‘Uncapped’ category with his last appearance for India having taken place more than five years ago. DC and RCB raise their paddles, and the latter are quick to back out!

Yash Dhull, however goes unsold!

The Knight Riders are the first to raise their paddle for the exciting top-order batter who had made his IPL debut while representing the ‘Purple Brigade’ last year. CSK join the bidding war and take the price past the 2-crore mark.

Chennai Super Kings, however, are done once the price touches Rs 3 crore, at which point it becomes clear the 19-year-old will continue to wear purple.

Mumbai Indians decide against exercising their ‘Right To Match’ option – which they can use only on one uncapped player. CSK and LSG help take his base price past the crore mark from his base price of Rs 30 lakh.

PBKS then join the race in place of LSG and take the bid past 2 crore. GT and DC make late entries, but eventually back out as Punjab Kings stand firm and eventually acquire the middle-order batter who bowls leg spin.

GT decide against using the RTM after CSK make a successful bid of Rs 5 crore, and later double that amount after Titans briefly show interest in retaining him.

MI tried bidding for him once again, but clearly their budget for the spin department isn’t that much.

Noor’s compatriot Waqar Salamkheil, meanwhile, goes unsold!

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, previously part of RPS, MI and PBKS, receives an opening bid from SRH. Mumbai Indians, who don’t have a frontline spinner in their squad yet, jump in next.
