India vs Australia 2nd Test pitch report

Adelaide Oval is the same ground where India were all out for 36 the last time they played at the venue. Generally, the stadium has good conditions for batting but also provides consistent assistance to pacers which becomes even more daunting with the pink ball.

Sunil Gavaskar and Mathew Hayden did the pitch report before the toss and here’s what they had to say: “Over the last few days, a lot of grass has been taken off. There’s still a fair amount of grass there - 6mm of grass - which will mean the new ball bowlers will have plenty of help at the start while the ball is hard and new. Adelaide pitches have been known to be very good for batting. It could actually seam around quite a lot. Pretty good batting conditions for day one and two. Bowlers then start to own in the back end of the sessions on day two and then averages go down.”

IND vs AUS |   Why the Australian cricket team is struggling to win at home against India

Adelaide Oval head curator Damian Hough said the pitch will assist the pacers again but it will have something for everyone. “On the morning of day three, no one would have expected that Test match to finish in three days (talking about 36 all out),” Hough said. “That was just really good bowling from Australia … I don’t think the pitch played a part in that.

“Our job is to get that balance right and try to get a really good, even contest. Both teams have, like, elite bowlers, world-class bowlers. I mean, we’ve seen enough day-nighters to know that if you get the new rock under lights with two new batters in, that it can be very tricky.”
