The Indian cricket team will aim to take a 2-0 lead against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy when they take on the hosts in a day/night Test match from 6 December in Adelaide. India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series with a 295-run win in the first Test at Perth in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma. The skipper is now back and is set to take over the reins from his deputy Jasprit Bumrah. However, it will be interesting to see where he bats in the lineup.
KL Rahul replaced him as an opener in Perth and scored a solid 26 and 77 , which laid the foundation for India’s improbable win. Rahul was asked about the same on Wednesday but the Bengaluru lad gave a diplomatic reply.
”Anything (opening or middle order),” he said. ”I just want to be in the playing XI, which means wherever. You go there and bat and play for the team.”
Adelaide Test: KL Rahul Batting Position
In India’s recent practice game against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra, Rohit batted at No. 4 as Virat Kohli sat out and Shubman Gill, who missed the Perth Test due to a finger injury, batted at No.3. The opening combination was same as Perth, that of Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
There’s a possibility that Dhruv Jurel could be dropped and Rohit can play in the middle order, while Gill is set to come in for Devdutt Padikkal.
There are also reports that R Ashwin could come in at Adelaide Oval in place of Washington Sundar.
Meanwhile, Australia are without Josh Hazlewood , and Scott Boland is expected to replace him.

The pink ball in day/night Tests swings a lot and the grass cover at Adelaide Oval is expected to make things more difficult for the batters. Damian Hough, the Adelaide Oval’s head curator, has revealed that the pitch will have a thick grass cover.
“History suggests that it is hard to bat under lights in Adelaide. The pitch will have 6mm of grass. We’re trying to allow all facets of the game to shine at some stage during the game,” Hough was quoted as saying by PTI.
“What we’re trying to do is have a coarse mat grass – thatchy type of grass that’s dry and hard. And the reason we do that is we’re trying to get as much pace and bounce out of the pitch as what we can get for us, for Adelaide, which is a lower clay content,” he added.
This only means the Test match will see pacers ruling the proceedings and it can get over earlier than in five days.
