Uncapped all-rounder Tanush Kotian has been called up to the India squad for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. Kotian was part of the Mumbai squad that won the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy title.

Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian was on Monday added to Team India’s squad for the fourth and fifth Tests against Australia Down Under. “The Men’s Selection Committee has named all-rounder Tanush Kotian as an addition to India’s squad for the fourth and fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Kotian bowls right-arm off-spin and bats right-handed. His call-up to the Indian team comes in the aftermath of Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement from international cricket last week. Kotian is currently with the Mumbai team competing in the Vijay Haare Trophy.

Tanush Kotian’s heroics in domestic cricket

Kotian has showcased consistency in domestic cricket and was part of the Mumbai squad that won the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy title. He scored 502 runs from 14 innings for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy that season and also picked up 29 wickets from 18 innings.

Kotian also scored a fifty and a hundred, and took three wickets in the Irani Cup match against Rest of India in October this year, which Mumbai won on the basis of first-innings lead .

The 26-year-old recently featured for India A in the second unofficial Test against Australia A, picking one wicket and scoring 44 runs, both in the second innings. Till date, Kotian has played 33 First-Class matches and taken 101 wickets, while also scoring 1525 runs.

It’s currently all to play for in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series which is 1-1 after three Tests. India won the first Test by 295 runs, whereas Australia clinched the second Test by 10 wickets. The third Test ended in a draw. The fourth Test will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) starting from 26 December, with the fifth Test to take place in Sydney from 3 January.
