Uncapped all-rounder Tanush Kotian has been named in the Team India squad for the fourth and fifth Tests against Australia. The 26-year-old’s maiden call-up to the senior India side comes after all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin announced retirement from international cricket last week . Kotian has impressed for Mumbai in domestic cricket in recent times.

A spin bowling all-rounder, Tanush Kotian was born in Mumbai on 16 October, 1998. He was named in the India Under-19 squad in 2017 and played in the Under-19 Asia Cup later that year. Kotian, however, played just two matches in the Asia Cup returning with just one wicket. He eventually missed out on making the India squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand that the Prithvi Shaw-led side won.
Kotian, however, started impressing in domestic age-group tournaments, particularly the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, and in 2018, he made his First-Class debut for Mumbai against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. Kotian, who was only 20 years old back then, picked two wickets of Saurashtra’s first innings. Kotian as played 33 First-Class matches till date, picking 101 runs and scoring 1525 runs.
Kotian was instrumental in Mumbai lifting the Ranji Trophy title in the 2023-24 season . He picked up 29 wickets and also scored 502 runs at an average of 41.83. Kotian has so far taken 12 wickets in the ongoing domestic red-ball cricket season.
Kotian also helped Mumbai win the Irani Cup in October this year , scoring a fifty and a century in each of Mumbai’s innings. Mumbai beat Rest of India by virtue of first innings lead, and this performance helped Kotian secure a place in the India A squad for an away series against Australia A. Kotian scored 44 runs and took a wicket in the second unofficial Test match between Australia A and India A in Melbourne.
