India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa, starting November 14 at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens . Siraj, who will lead India’s pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah, said the team is focused on maintaining their strong form from recent tours and making the most of home advantage.
The 31-year-old pacer has been India’s standout performer in red-ball cricket this year. He took 10 wickets in two Tests against West Indies at an impressive average of 13, and was the leading wicket-taker in the five-match series against England with 23 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls.
Siraj expresses confidence ahead of 1st Test
Meanwhile, Siraj acknowledged the challenge that the reigning World Test Champions South Africa could pose, as they recently drew a series against Pakistan in their own backyard. However, the senior pacer said he remains confident in both his bowling form and the team’s overall strength to do well against the Proteas.
“This series is crucial for the new WTC cycle, especially since South Africa is the defending champion. While they drew 1-1 with Pakistan, we’re confident from our own good form, we created a positive environment, performed well in England, and won against the West Indies. Personally, I’m bowling with good rhythm and looking to make the most of it. Facing strong teams helps identify areas to improve, and I’m really excited for this challenge,” Siraj said on JioStar.
India have made a strong start to the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle under new captain Shubman Gill. They have won four of their seven Tests so far, including two against England in tough conditions. India are currently sitting in third place on the WTC points table.
