The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday unveiled the jersey that the Indian cricket team will be wearing in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The jersey was launched during the innings break in the second ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur, in which the Men in Blue posted a commanding 358/5 after they lost yet another toss and were invited to bat by the Proteas.
Rohit, who had led India to victory in the T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean last year, unveiled the jersey along with Tilak Varma, who is an integral member of the T20I team, as well as BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia at Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium.
“It’s been a long journey. We won our first World Cup in 2007, and we had to wait more than 15 years to win the next one. It’s been a long road with plenty of ups and downs, but it felt great to lift the trophy again. Now, with the World Cup happening in India, it’s going to be an exciting tournament,” Rohit said during the jersey launch on Wednesday.
“My best wishes are always with the team, and I’m sure everyone will be behind them, supporting them and doing their best,” added the ‘Hitman’, who has been named the Brand Ambassador for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The brand new jersey retains Adidas’ trademark design of three-white-line design on the shoulders, which is now blue instead of orange that was the hallmark of the previous Indian T20I kits. The orange strip has, instead, moved to the side panels and forms a border around the arms. And while royal blue remains the dominant colour of the team’s kit, the T20 World Cup jersey includes vertical navy blue stripes, making it somewhat similar to Italian top-flight football club Inter Milan’s home kit.
And though the kit has been launched keeping the T20 World Cup in mind, it will make its debut in the T20I series against South Africa that gets underway in Cuttack next week, the squad for which was unveiled during the innings break in Raipur on Wednesday.
India will be co-hosting the upcoming T20 World Cup along with Sri Lanka, in which the Suryakumar Yadav-led Men in Blue will be entering as the defending world champions. Rohit had led India to their second T20 world title in June last year, and had retired from Twenty20 Internationals along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja after the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados.
Surya would then succeed Rohit as India captain in the shortest format thereafter and has led the team by example since then, with the Men in Blue winning 22 out of 27 games under his leadership including a couple of Super Over wins against Sri Lanka. They have also won every bilateral series during this period, which includes a 2-1 victory in Australia last month, as well as their Asia Cup triumph in the UAE in September.
Surya and Co, thus, are strong favourites heading into the T20 World Cup, where they are grouped alongside arch-rivals Pakistan as well as USA, Netherlands and Namibia in Group A.
India open their account against USA in Mumbai on 7 February and are up against Namibia in Delhi five days later. The Men in Blue then travel to Colombo for their blockbuster showdown against Pakistan on 15 February before facing Netherlands in their final group match on 18 February.
