Chennai Super Kings’ list of retained and released players IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings have had their sights set on rebuilding the side ever since they finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in the history of the world’s biggest T20 league. It marked a new low for a team that remains the most successful in IPL history, alongside the Mumbai Indians and had not failed to reach the playoffs until 2020.

It was also the first time since the league’s inception in 2008 that CSK failed to reach the IPL playoffs in consecutive seasons. While the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side had narrowly missed out on a top-four finish last year after a narrow defeat against fierce rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they barely put up a fight across the 18th season earlier this year and became the first team to bow out of the playoffs race.
The sudden decline in their form isn’t likely to affect the passionate support for CSK, with the ‘Yellow Army’ boasting of a large, dedicated fan base like no other. The franchise’s management, however, will have been in emergency mode for the better part of the year, and might have already been planning for the next season from the moment they were knocked out of the playoffs race.
