Satyajeet Puri, the actor-filmmaker, recently shared an engrossing anecdote about legendary star Dharmendra, talking about his fearless stand against the underworld when it was at its peak in Bollywood.
“At that time, the underworld was very strong. Many actors would get scared if they were summoned. But Dharamji and his family never feared them. He would tell them, ‘If you come, the whole Sahnewal will come from Punjab. You have 10 people, but I have an army. One word from me and trucks full of people will come from Punjab to fight. Don’t mess with me.’ And they never did,” said Puri while talking to Friday Talkies.
Satyajeet, who is the son of the veteran actor Satyen Puri, has collaborated with Dharmendra for movies like Rajput (1982) Betaab (1983), Taqdeer Ka Badshah (1982), Batwara, and Izzatdaar (1990).
Dharmendra was last seen in 2024’s _Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya_, which featured Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Dimple Kapadia, Rakesh Bedi, Rajesh Kumari, and Anubha Fatehpuria in prominent roles. Before that, he was also featured in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which starred Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, Anjali Anand, Namit Das and Kshitee Jog.
Dharmendra will reunite with Johnny Gaddaar director Sriram Raghavan for the upcoming war biopic Ikkis, which narrates the heroic life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra recipient, who sacrificed his life during the 1971 Indo-Pak war at the age of 21.
Also starring Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikander Kher, and debutante Simar Bhatia, it is set to hit the screens in December 2025. It is produced under the banner of Maddock Films.
