Water is life for mankind, so we say ‘Jal Jeevan Hai’ and ‘Jal Hai Toh Kal Hai’. Right from the globe to the human body, water dominates in almost every element in the universe. While the dynamics have changed the world in the past few decades, the importance of water has witnessed a significant rise from personal to professional and commercial purposes.
Taking advantage of this situation, we saw the birth of water mafias, who practice the illegal trade of water. During our school times, we learned about the scarcity of water. But do you really think, there is a crisis of it? Well, it is an artificial shortage created by social evil mentalities of society, who can make insane amounts of money by abolishing the basic of right of having free water to humans.
In films like Bhavesh Joshi Superhero and Fukrey 3, we came to know about water mafias on the surface level but in the DocuBay documentary, we get insights into these illegal trades, which are happening in the metro cities of Mumbai and Delhi.
Hats off to director Naman Govil, who presented this eye-opener through his narrative and kudos to Girish Dwibhashyam - COO, of DocuBay, and Anil Chaudhary - Director, of VICE India, who came forward for this topic. Such contemporary issue awareness is the need of an hour.
Water Mafia relies heavily on real pictures with crime data statistics along with impeccable statistics from journalist Vivek Agarwal, who did splendid research and analysis. Right from Laxman Gole (Ex Gangster) narrating the story of water thieves from Mumbai slums to Aam Aadmi Party’s Volunteer and Activist, Raja Ram Gautam sharing some unbelievable stories of corruption in Delhi and masterminds behind this crime, Water Mafia promises to be a gripping watch. It aces in every technical and creative department including cinematography, editing and watertight screenplay.
This is the documentary, which you shouldn’t be missing.
