Vishal Bhardwaj on making Kaminey
Vishal Bhardwaj revealed that there have been times when he believed that a movie would fail, but it ended up working. Sharing an example, the director revealed that Kaminey was one such film that he thought would not work. He added “While making the film, I was feeling like how will we do this. There was so much conflict between the director of photography (DOP) and the cast, between DOP and the production and between the production designer and the production. It was chaos on some other level.” Vishal Bhardwaj also stated during the shoot he had to address these issues for around an hour and a half every day after reaching the set.
Despite facing such issues, Kaminey turned out to be a box office hit. Released on August 14, 2009, the venture garnered a total of more than 70 crores at the ticket counters.
_Kaminey_ saw Shahid Kapoor in a dual role of identical twins, Guddu and Charlie. Born and raised in the Mumbai slum, both suffer from speech impairment. The primary cast of the drama also included Priyanka Chopra, Amole Gupte, and Deb Mukherjee.
After Kaminey, Shahid Kapoor also headlined Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2014 drama Haider, co-starring Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Shraddha Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan. Both these movies received a lot of critical acclaim.
Vishal Bhardwaj’s recent directorial was _Khufiya_. The Netflix movie featuring Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi as leads is a cinematic adaptation of Amar Bhushan’s espionage novel, Escape to Nowhere.
