Uri: The Surgical Strike earns Rs 8.2 cr on opening day at box office; The Accidental Prime Minister rakes in Rs 4.5 cr

Two of the most highly-anticipated films, The Accidental Prime Minister and Vicky Kaushal-starrer Uri: The Surgical Strikereleased on 11 January. The Anupam Kher film recorded a collection of Rs 4.50 crore on the opening day. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that the film picked up pace in the latter part of the day.

On the other hand, Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam's action film Uri: The Surgical Strike amassed Rs 8.20 crore on its first day, with a possibility of an upward growth during the weekend.

However, with two Bollywood films and five South movies — Petta, NTR Kathanayakudu, Viswasam, F2 and Vinaya Vidheya Rama, the earnings of Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh's blockbuster cop-entertainer Simmba took a hit. The film managed to rake Rs 2.60 crore on Friday, and has earned a total of Rs 215.03 crore since its release.
