The New Year began on an exciting note for Telugu and Tamil cinema as the fans were treated to over half a dozen major announcements on the occasion. From the title of Suriya’s next film with KV Anand to the second look of Nayanthara-starrer Airaa and the second glimpse of Mahesh Babu-starrer Maharishi _;_ there could not have been a better start to the year for the two industries.
In Tamil, the first major announcement came in the form of the title and first look posters of Suriya’s next film. Last week, director KV Anand ran a poll on Twitter with three title options that he wanted the audience to choose from. The title Uirka won the poll by a big margin. However, they still went ahead and finalised the title Kaappaan because everybody else in the crew felt it was the appropriate title.
Kaappaan is to save or protect, and if the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Suriya plays a bodyguard to Mohanlal, who will be seen in the role of a prime minister. The film also stars Arya, Sayyeshaa, Boman Irani and Samuthirakani. The makers unveiled two new posters on Tuesday and going by both of them, it is evident that Suriya is part of some secret services group and is on a mission.
Anand revealed that the last schedule of the film, being bankrolled by Lyca Productions, will resume from 19 January. The principal shooting began in London a few months ago where the makers shot predominant portions of the film.
Sathya Jyothi films announced two new projects with Dhanush. One of the projects will mark the reunion of Dhanush and Kodi director Durai Senthil Kumar. The second project marks the first time collaboration of _ Ratsasan -_fame Ramkumar and Dhanush.
Talking about his film with Dhanush, director Ramkumar said in a recent media interaction, “This will be a fantasy-based subject with good scope for comedy. That’s all I can reveal at the moment. It’s a very unique character and I think only he (Dhanush) can pull it off. The energy that he brings to a character is unmatchable.”
We are excited to collaborate with @dhanushkraja for 2 films, first film from the super hit combo of Durai Senthil Kumar and Dhanush, Music by Duo Vivek & Mervin & second film to be directed by 'Mundasapatti' & 'Ratsasan' fame Ram Kumar. pic.twitter.com/jxEfj3n6mz

On the eve of New Year, a special poster of Dhruv Vikram’s Varmaa , the Tamil remake of Arjun Reddy, was released. The makers revealed that the trailer of the film will be released by Suriya on 9 January.
In Telugu, the second poster of Maharishi was released. Dressed suavely in a black suit, the poster features Mahesh walking in rain and accompanied by his foreign entourage. Fans went on to ask if Mahesh plays a James Bond-like character in the film, which is being directed by Vamshi Paidipally.

VINTAGE SPARKLES
— Hi Nani (@NameisNani) December 31, 2018
At 36 there is nothing left for him to prove in cricket. The dreams and heartburns have been left behind.. 1996-97 Ranji trophy season was just a display of his love for batting.#JERSEY #HappyNewYear2019 @gowtam19 @ShraddhaSrinath @anirudhofficial @vamsi84 pic.twitter.com/t7FNrWXDo8
Being directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film is the story of a late bloomer. Gautam had told Firstpost, “It’s a story about a late bloomer who realizes his talent at a certain age and pursues his dream to join Indian cricket team. It’s a period sports drama and the story takes place between 1986 and 1996.” Nani plays a character called Arjun in the film and Gowtam describes the film as a “success story of a failure”. The motion poster and first look of Prashant Varma’s Kalki , featuring Rajasekhar, was unveiled on Tuesday. Following the phenomenal run of PSG Garuda Vega, which redeemed his sagging career, Rajasekhar will be seen playing an investigative officer in this thriller set in Telangana in 1983.
