Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, serving a term at the Yerawada central jail in Pune, is slated to perform at a cultural fundraiser at the Balgandharva Rangmandir auditorium on September 26.
The Times of India reported that Dutt will perform in the fundraiser will 50 other prisoners where the chief minister and home minister are expected to be present. “Chief minister Prithiviraj Chavan and home minister RR Patil will be the main guests at the event. Dutt has agreed to the performance, which will see him dancing to some popular Hindi and Marathi songs,” Yerawada jail superintendent Yogesh Desai told TOI .
The fundraiser event has been planned by the state department of prisons to raise finances for the welfare of the department’s employees and their families.
Dutt is serving a five-year sentence at the Yerawada central jail for the illegal possession of firearms.
Dutt and the other performers, which include a number of convicts and undertrials, will make the 8 km journey from from Yerwada Jail to Balgandharva Rangmandir auditorium under strong security.
