Cast: Gulshan Devaiah, Amit Sadh, Drashti Dhami, Rajesh Khattar, Zakir Hussain Director: Rohan Sippy Language: Hindi The K-drama Flower Of Evil is all about subterfuge and surreptitious identity. A crime-branch officer is immersed in the investigation of gruesome serial killings when a twist of fate leaves her shocked and frightened. It’s something to do with her husband, he may not be what he seems to be. The Indian adaptation was titled Duranga, both the monikers are unique. In season one, the character of Abhishek Banne, played by Gulshan Devaiah, wronged and ruined a life and it’s now time for vengeance. The dual identity of Devaiah is on the brink of being exposed and the clandestine motivations will be unraveled in the most psychotic way. Revenge is the answer, not redemption. The character hunting for Abhishek is Amit Sadh, who has woken up from his coma after 14 long years. 14 years is a long time, everything around him has changed, but nothing about him is misplaced. Of course, he’s no longer the man he was. What makes _Duranga 2_, directed by Rohan Sippy, twisted is how the good becomes the evil and the evil is the angel. Sippy did a good job with his thriller _Dum Maaro Dum (2011),_ also starring Gulsha Devaiah in his acting debut. The best thing about that film was the exchange of words between the characters. The lines here may not be as memorable but they do create a room for palpable tension. And since it’s a crime thriller, there has to be bloodshed and lots of darkness. And yes, an eerie background score and hideous smiles that suggest danger is lurking. Gulshan Devaiah is a solid actor, but in season two, he gets a tough competitor in the form of Amit Sadh. There’s a certain sense of pain and ache in his demeanour, evident from films like Kai Po Che and shows like Breathe. Nearly every character he essayed has gone through loss and trauma. In Duranga 2, it has lasted for 14 years without him being aware of it. The makers blur the lines between the good and the evil in season two, it’s all about deciding who’s the lesser evil. Choose wisely.
