Dum Maro Dum Maro from The Final Exit is another (unoriginal) rendition of RD Burman's classic
Starring Kunal Roy Kapur in the lead, The Final Exit is an upcoming movie belonging to the horror-thriller genre, and it just released a new song called 'Dum Maro Dum Maro' (yes, one more version of the age-old original that Bollywood just cannot seem to get over).
The first few chords of 'Dum Maro Dum Maro' immediately gave me a major 'Manali Trance' throwback — which is not surprising — considering both the songs are sung by Neha Kakkar. The video sees a dazed Kunal Roy floundering around on our screens while he is high on cocaine, occasionally interspersed with a dazed Kunal Roy floundering around on our screens while he is romancing various ladies.
This version of 'Dum Maro Dum' is reminiscent of Deepika Padukone's 'Mit Jaaye Gham (Dum Maaro Dum)' from Rohan Sippy's 2011 Dum Maaro Dum. Both songs have strobe lights, drugs, scantily clad women and a (strange, strange) rap verse in common. The Final Exit's song however, does have a few aspects that differentiate it from the crop of songs that have been picturised on R D Burman's original.
The chorus of the song too, is more upbeat and packed with energy than the usual reprisals of the song that we have heard over the years, athough it gets a little screechy after a while.
All in all this song reads as just another (unoriginal) edition of R D Burman's classic melody.
The Final Exit also stars Ananya Sengupta, Scarlett Wilson, Archana Shastri and Reyhna Malhotra alongside Kunal Roy Kapur. The film is co-produced by Mrunal Jhaveri and Vishal Rana and is slated to hit the screens on 22 September.
