Kangana Ranaut, who has been vocal about women’s rights in the past, praised the recently introduced Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament. The Queen actress joined several women sportspersons and artists from varied fields at the new Parliament building for the event. Actress Esha Gupta was amongst one such special invitees on the occasion of the introduction of the bill.
The bill, officially known as ‘Narishakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. It was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
A ‘historic’ day
Kangana Ranaut termed the day ‘historic’ for the nation and the country’s women. The 36-year-old also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for opening up new avenues for women. In an interview with ANI, the actress added, “The BJP could have brought any other bill today, but they chose women empowerment. This shows their thinking. I think the country is in able hands.”
Talking about her upcoming film, Sarvesh Mewara’s Tejas, Kangana Ranaut added how women are now taking up more active roles in the army and air force. She added how she’s playing an air force pilot in the film set for release in October this year. Additionally, she described the developing world as part of the ’new age’.
A ‘progressive’ thought
Esha Gupta, known for films like Jannat 2 and Raaz 3, said that the passage of the bill is a progressive move. With the reservation bill, the government is planning to give equivalent powers to women and it is a big step for our country. “PM Modi promised it and delivered it,” she continued.
On passing the Women’s Reservation Bill on the very first day of this Parliament session, the 37-year-old reiterated that it highlights the government’s commitment to progress. She also stressed the importance of listening to the voices of women. According to her, these women empowerment bill shall strengthen women’s rights.
Citing examples of girl initiatives like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the actress articulated how PM Modi has advocated various initiatives for women.
Celebs roll call
Besides Kangana Ranaut and Esha Gupta, Parliament was graced by who’s who from the artistic world. The special invitees included fashion designer Rina Dhaka, singer-dancer Sapna Chaudhary, dancers Nalini and Kamlini, and vocalist Sumitra Guha among others.
Others prominent personalities like wrestler Geetika Jakhar, actor Sulakhyana Barua, Arjuna Awardees Neha Rathi and Alka Tomar were also part of the historic moment.
Work Front
Work wise, Esha Gupta was last seen in Prakash Jha’s Aashram 3 featuring Bobby Deol in the lead.
The diva made her debut with Jannat 2 and won the Best Female Debut Award from the Filmfare Awards. Apart from that, she has also worked in films like Raaz 3D, Rustom, Baadshaho, Chakravyuh among others.
Kangana Ranaut, on the other hand, is busy promoting P Vasu’s Chandramukhi 2. She will be seen in films like Emergency, Tejas and Manikarnika 2 next.
