Anurag Kashyap praises Kangana Ranaut's work but admits it's 'very difficult' to deal with her

Filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap, who is busy promoting crime drama Haddi, recently opened up about working with Kangana Ranaut. The Gangs of Wasseypur director, who worked with the Manikarnika actress in 2013 film Queen, said in an interview that although Kangana Ranaut is one of the ‘finest actors’, he has ‘other problems’ with her.

As part of the interview with Jist, Anurag Kashyap was also joined by actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, who has worked with Kangana Ranaut in Tanu Weds Manu (2011), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) and Manikarnika (2019).

On Kangana Ranaut’s other problems

During the conversation, Zeeshan Ayyub acknowledged how Kangana Ranaut, as an actor, was superlative once upon a time. To which, Anurag interrupted him saying that even today she comes across as a finest actor. While calling her ‘sincere’, the filmmaker suggested there are other problems that she has. But when it comes to her talent, nobody can snatch that away from her.

Anurag Kashyap and Kangana Ranaut worked together in Queen (2013). It was helmed by Phantom Films, co-owned by Kashyap.

On Kangana Ranaut’s changed behaviour

Earlier in July 2020, Anurag Kashyap took to X, describing Kangana Ranaut’s changed behaviour. He wrote about how he saw Kangana’s interview the previous night. Calling her ‘a really good friend’ from the past, he acknowledged how she motivated him for films.

The Kennedy director further added that he’s unaware of this new Kangana. He spoke this with reference to a ‘frightening interview’, recorded after the release of Kangana’s film Manikarnika.

The 51-year-old further mentioned how not many have been able to distance themselves from distractions caused by ‘success and power’, whether it be an insider or an outsider. Quoting the Manikarnika star, Anurag said, “These words ‘Learn from me, be like me,’ had never been heard from her before 2015.” He further added, “Since then, it has come to this that if someone is not with you, they are selfish and sycophant.”

Kangana, on her part, replied to Anurag’s post saying, “I will always raise my voice for my nation. I will never compromise on my principles. I will never do it! Jai Hind."

Neither Kangana nor Anurag have collaborated on a project ever since that incident took place.

Professional commitments

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut will be next seen in films like Emergency, Tejas and Manikarnika 2.

Anurag Kashyap is widely known for his films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Manmarziyaan and Dobaaraa among others. The filmmaker is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming movie Kennedy which stars Rahul Bhatt and Sunny Leone in the lead. The neo-noir thriller premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and was recently screened as the closing movie at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM).

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, on the other hand, is known for notable performances in movies like All Is Well, Article 15, Mission Mangal, Raanjhanaa, Chhalaang, Jogi among others. Before appearing in Akshat Ajay Sharma’s Haddi, he gave a power-packed performance in Hansal Mehta’s Scoop opposite Karishma Tanna.
