Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar starrer HAQ has emerged as the talk of the town for the right reasons. Directed by Suparn S Varma and produced by Junglee Pictures, the film is seeing an impressive theatrical run and is also performing well at the box office.
As the film surrounds concepts of triple talaq and a Muslim woman’s fight for the rights of maintenance for her children, HAQ has struck a chord with the Muslim community in particular. Recently, the Khadim (custodian) of Ajmer Sharif Dargah offered prayers and blessings for the success of HAQ, offering a spiritual boost to the film’s growth.
In a video, the custodian is seen offering prayers for the film’s incredible run, and his heartfelt gesture grabbed the attention of HAQ’s director, Suparn S Varma. He simply appreciated the custodian’s generosity and commented, “🙏🏼 thank you”
In Suparn S Varma’s film, inspired by real cases and constitutional debates, marriage is stripped of its sentimentality. If marriage is a contract, Emraan argues, then so is its dissolution and no one should have the right to weaponize faith to bypass justice.
On the other side stands Yami Gautam’s character, who in her final monologue says, “Sharia says, any man who gives triple talaq should be punished with lashes. But tell me, Your Honour, how many men’s backs have you ever seen scarred that way?”
The silence that follows is damning. As the film argues that the Quran and the Constitution are not enemies but allies, both born from the same moral soil of justice, equality, and truth, the audience bursts into a thunderous applause.
