Bengaluru molestation: Farhan Azmi lashes out at Esha Gupta and Farhan Akhtar

Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi’s horrific statement on the Bengaluru molestation case evoked a sharp reaction from the film fraternity on Twitter. One of the most vocal among the fraternity was actor Esha Gupta who entered into a verbal spat with Abu’s son Farhan Azmi.

Abu had issued a statement that since women were roaming on the streets in the dark and were wearing short clothes on New Year’s Eve, the men could not contain their aggression and went on to molest and assault the women. Since he put the blame on the women themselves, a large number of celebrities condemned his harsh and unpardonable words.

Gupta went a notch higher and insulted his mother for giving birth to a ‘jerk.’ However, Farhan Azmi took offence to that tweet and in his late grandmother’s defense, questioned Gupta’s dignity in a tweet loaded with contempt.

Another celebrity he attacked was the filmmaker-cum-actor Farhan Akhtar who took a dig at Azmi by pointing out the senior leader’s hypocritical nature. Akhtar incidentally owns an NGO called MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) which works towards women empowerment.

Farhan Azmi got offended by Akhtar’s tweet as well and questioned the actor’s responsibility as the brand ambassador of UN Women in India.

While Farhan Azmi had clearly stated that both he and his wife, actor Ayesha Takia, do not agree with Abu’s take on Bengaluru molestation, his ensuing tweets tell quite a different story. From slut-shaming Gupta to looking down upon Akhtar’s efforts towards women empowerment, Farhan Azmi has not left any stone unturned.
