Badrinath Ki Dulhania box office collection: Varun, Alia's film nears Rs 100 crore after second weekend

The Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhania is nearing the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. While the numbers saw a steep dip after Holi and maintained the same pace throughout the week, it redeemed itself a little on Saturday.

Though Friday saw the release of two other films, Vikramaditya Motwane's survival drama Trapped and the family drama Mantra, Badrinath Ki Dulhania managed to stay put at the box office. Its total collection stands at Rs 83.77 crore as on 19 March. Film critic Taran Adarsh predicted the film to hit the Rs 100 crore mark soon.

The film managed to attract a decent footfall on its opening day, amounting to a collection of Rs 12 crore-plus across India, the makers said. It saw constant progress throughout the weekend. In spite of a minor dip in the collection on Monday, the film managed to stay put and passed the Monday test. With Rs 12.08 crore on Monday, the total collection of the film now stands at Rs 55.13 crore.

KoiMoi reports that Badnrinath Ki Dulhania's weekend collections fall in the top 3 box office collections in 2017, after Raees (59.83 crores) and Jolly LLB 2 (50.46 crores).

Since it was the only Hindi release this past Friday, it cashed in on the long weekend by scoring a good collection on Sunday, i.e., Rs 16.05 crore, and Monday, i.e., Rs 12.08 crore. Had it been any other day than Holi, the film have seen a steeper dip on Monday. But being a family entertainer, with some elements designed exclusively for the festival, it managed to pass the proverbial Monday test.

Its litmus test will be on Tuesday when the schools and offices are open again. Varun Dhawan, in an exclusive interview to Firstpost, said that he was initially apprehensive of the ongoing exam season. But he is happy to learn about the commendable progress of the film at the box office.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania is the sequel of Shashank Khaitan's 2013 directorial debut Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. It is directed by Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. It also stars Aparshakti Khurana, Sahil Vaid, Swanand Kirkire, Gauhar Khan and Shweta Basu Prasad.
