Addressing the unprecedented media attention towards her bonding with boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor throughout 2018, Alia Bhatt said she was just immune to the all kinds of reports now. In an interview with Hindustan Times, the actress stated, “It is just a part – and a very important part – of my life. It’s seamless as well as beautiful, and should be celebrated when it has to be. Right now, it should just be left on its own and kind of kept in a corner where it can stay safe and warm. You can say that it’s like a cat in my life that I want to protect, and it’s not ready to come on social media the way Edward has,” added Alia. She mentioned how the focus on the relationship was shifting importance from the body of work that she has done and put in good effort towards. Alia added that she felt the relationship was something organic and should be given the required space and time to let it be; to nurture into something. Having made a considerable mark with her films in 2018, Alia seems to have even a more interesting line-up of films this year. The actress stated that Raazi was a risk of sorts and the fact that audiences reacted so positively to the ‘small budget’ film shows that 2018 was indeed about content. Alia said that 2019 would have her focusing mainly on Takht and Sadak 2.
Apart from being an important choice, Raazi
also served an emotional journey for the actress as she had to mentally prepare herself to be in Sehmat’s mind-state. The Meghna Gulzar directorial also consolidated Alia’s understanding of the kind of films that she wants to be involved with. Bhatt stated that she always possessed a gut feeling that Raazi would do well but never expressed it openly from the fear of jinxing it. Kalank
to the supernatural ambiance of
Brahmastra,
Alia has had and will have fresh adventures of sorts. The fact that she got to work with director Zoya Akhtar on Gully Boy
was also special for Bhatt. However, the actress felt that though most of her films are ‘good difficult’, they ought to pan out on the silver screens for audiences to understand them and enjoy all of it.
Talking about the pressure from film trade circles, expecting her projects to fare well, Bhatt said she has been quite interested in the commerce of cinema for the longest time. She added that she is not delusional in keeping targets for her own films. The actress expected Raazi to make approximately Rs 80 crore at the box office, but the pleasant surprise of a Rs 120 crore was more than welcome. Similarly, like her, the actress felt trade analysts also judge the film for what it is and thereby expect reasonably.
