“We will be able to ascertain the cause of the fire only when we enter the area… we have restricted the fire to one room and there are no injuries,” a fire rescue official told reporters.

There are, however, conflicting reports on how the fire occurred with NDTV reporting that the fire took place in a hostel room but that sounds of what seemed like cylinder explosions were also heard.

Hindustan Times reports that the fire broke out at around 11.25 am in room number 421 on the third floor of Block-5 in the campus. Fire officials confirmed to the newspaper it was not a hostel room.

More details are awaited.
