Indian consumers can purchase practically anything online. But as they shop for kurtas, appliances, toys and even fragrances, consumers want to transact on websites they can trust. To deliver on that expectation, leading departmental store Shoppersstop has deployed VeriSign Extended Validation (EV) Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificates to offer its customers immediate, visible assurances of safety when they shop and make payments online.

Facilitated by VeriSign’s platinum partner reseller, Adweb Technologies, Shoppersstop.com has joined the community of websites that display the signature ‘green’ address bar to authenticate websites.

“Consumers are often reluctant to provide their personal information while shopping over the Internet,” said Vivek Mathur, Customer Care associate and vice president, e-Commerce, Shoppersstop.com. “To achieve our vision of becoming India’s first global retailer, we need to show consumers that we have the required technology in place to deliver a secure online shopping experience. VeriSign’s EV SSL Certificates help us clearly communicate to consumers that they have reached a genuine Shoppersstop.com checkout or account page. This is an important step in providing consumers with the best possible shopping experience.”

When a site is protected with an EV SSL Certificate, the latest high-security browsers show prominent visual cues to signal that the site is known to have been authenticated to a high level. For instance, Internet Explorer 7 and 8 as well as Firefox 3 display a green address bar and a field with the name of the organisation that owns the site. Both are instantly recognisable signals to consumers that they have reached a site whose identity has been certified by a recognised SSL Certificate Authority, such as VeriSign.

“Consumer trust and confidence are paramount given today’s competitive online environment and the fact that a single security breach can compromise trust instantly,” said Shekhar Kirani, vice president, VeriSign India.

“VeriSign is the most trusted name in online transaction security and website authentication, and we are confident that the implementation of VeriSign EV SSL Certificates by Shoppersstop.com will set a security yardstick for e-commerce portals in India,” said Apurva Mody, CEO, Adweb Technologies, VeriSign platinum partner reseller.
