Marijuana, twerking on red carpet, Bryan Cranston's kiss: The Emmy moments India missed

This year’s Emmy Awards’ night was a snoozefest and neither Seth Meyers’s weak attempts at humour nor time zones – those in India who wanted to watch the live telecast had to be up at 5.30am – really did not help. Here’s the really tragic part about the live telecast that India got. Even if you woke up at the crack of dawn, chances are you missed the few entertaining moments of the night because these simply were not shown to us. Whether this is because the channels are extra vigilant about India or because Indian audiences were just plain unlucky with the live edit that reached us, we don’t know for sure. However, if the television channels taketh away, then the internet giveth back. Here are three Emmy moments that didn’t show up on television, but we figure were among the more memorable details of a rather dull night.

1. There are some things you don’t expect will pop up during red carpet interviews and marijuana is one of them. Comedian Sarah Silverman, however, managed to bring the drug up in conversation. When asked about the contents of her clutch bag, Silverman replied with “phone, pot and gum”. She went so far as taking out her vaporiser pen and described it as her “liquid pot”. After receiving an Emmy for her writing, Silverman said to Deadline.com , “I was carrying pot in my purse for later. It’s legal! I like to have a puff as a treat at appropriate times.”

2. Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her third Emmy in a row for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on HBO’s Veep. This third time may well turn out to be more memorable than other awards she receives because this time around, the award came hand in glove with a liplock with Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston. Earlier, Cranston had tried to remind Louis-Dreyfus of an onscreen kiss they’d shared when she was in Seinfeld. When Dreyfus’s memory seemed to fail her, Cranston decided actions work better than words. When the Veep star was on her way to the stage to receive her award, Cranston swept her into his arms and smooched her. Jimmy Fallon had to break it up. The good news: Cranston’s newly-acquired moustached did not leave a visible rash on Dreyfus’s face and the kiss did indeed jog her memory, from the look of things. Though we are totally going to get shivers remembering Cranston’s creepy post-kiss gesture (see below).

3. India did not see Heidi Klum twerking on the red carpet of Emmys 2014 and frankly, after having seen Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda, Klum’s attempts at twerking seems terribly wannabe. This year, there was a “mani-cam”, which is a camera set to show off stars’ nails, rings, bracelets and other hand-related accessories. Klum decided it was at perfect level to capture her derriere. She was right.
