The Bentley Bentayga Mulliner could be the most expensive luxury SUV yet

British luxury motoring marque Bentley Motors has unveiled what could be one of the most expensive SUVs ever produced. And there’s many reasons for this. The first one comes from the fact that it includes the word ‘Mulliner’ in its name, which is Bentley’s in-house personal commissioning division in Crewe. While the new SUV has just been announced, we can only expect to see the first (of a they very few) example at Bentley Motors stand at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show.

Starting with the numbers. Bentley says that the Bentayga Mulliner will be produced in very limited numbers that should technically make up for its expected high price tag. From here its all about Mulliner and its exquisite craftsmanship that makes this SUV exquisite and unique.

Bentley claims that, “The Bentayga Mulliner is the most exquisitely appointed luxury SUV ever created,” and that’s a rather tall one indeed, more so because Mercedes-Maybach G 650 was Landaulet was announced just a few weeks ago. And while it was derived from the G500, it packs in quite punch in terms of capabilities and fine-crafted interiors. But even though it is a Maybach it still does not match up with what you get on a Bentayga Mulliner.

Starting with the exterior you immediately get the feeling that it is something special. This is provided you have opted for the optional Duo Tone paintwork, which is a first for the Bentayga lineup. The finish is achieved by choosing “the perfect proportional balance point for the split” and this makes the cabin and bonnet appear as though they were floating. Add to new paintwork a new set of Mulliner 22-inch Paragon seven-spoke wheels with the floating centres and the unique exterior badge and you can you will certainly be able to tell your Bentayga from the rest.

But Bentley’s are all about customisation and interiors. And since its Mulliner, this is taken to a whole new level. The interior design and colour treatment is a bit unique. This is because Mulliner has gone in with a split colour scheme, where the front and rear seats are finished in different hide colours and offered in seven suggested colour ways. The interiors will always compliment the optional Duo Tone exterior paintwork. Everything is handcrafted and hand-stitched.Bentley Bentayga Mulliner (4)

Bespoke features by Mulliner include a new Mulliner Bottle Cooler in the rear of the cabin, featuring an illuminated chilling cabinet and Cumbria Crystal flutes. And all of these fit in the rear center console while seating the rear passengers in luxury.

The rest of the interior is wrapped with Ombré Burr Walnut Veneer, one that was exclusively introduced to the Bentayga Mulliner model. There’s mood lighting, with six different ‘moods’ and Mulliner thread plates along with Bentley LED welcome lamps. There’s also a customisable ‘my mood’ setting available.

Adding to the interior experience is the audio system. Bentley went with Naim and delivered what it claims is the most powerful and quality audio system in its class. It features a a twenty speaker setup with a 1,950-watt, 21-channel amplifier. The cherry on the cake is the the bespoke mechanical Mulliner Tourbillon by Breitling clock. Yes, this one’s for your SUV.

Getting into the powertrain, the Bentayga Mulliner gets Bentley’s class-leading 6.0-litre, W12 engine that produces 600bhp and 900Nm of peak torque, delivering a 0-60 mph time of just 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 301 kmph.

Bentley Motors will start accepting orders in Spring of 2017 and the numbers will be “very limited” due to the highly complex handcrafted nature of the interiors offered in the Bentayga Mulliner.

We expect the price tags to be way over the standard Bentayga (if you already don’t find it exquisite enough), which in India starts at Rs 3.85 crore.
