The US opposed Russia’s bid for UN aviation council seat, saying that Moscow’s actions make global airspace ‘more dangerous’
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Wednesday “Washington is against Russia’s election to the 36-member governing council of the UN aviation body."
The statement came as Russia pressed aviation leaders at the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s meeting in Montreal to lift sanctions on aircraft spare parts and overflight rights.
”They are the most aggressive abuser and violator of international agreements and international norms,” Duffy told Reuters in a telephone interview. ”You have the Russians spoofing GPS, shooting down aircraft. … How could we let someone come into a world organization that is truly making the airspace more dangerous, not more safe?”
