US President Donald Trump said that he does not rule out a reconciliation with his former ‘First Buddy,’ Elon Musk, after the two engaged in a dramatic public spat. While speaking on the debut episode of the New York Post’s podcast “Pod Force One,” Trump said that he could “patch things up” with the Tesla CEO.
However, the president made it clear that reconciliation with Musk isn’t currently his top priority. While speaking to the New York Post, Trump insisted that he does not blame Musk for the demise of their alliance, but insisted that he was “a little disappointed ” by the whole debacle. “Look, I have no hard feelings,” the 78-year-old president said in the interview.
“I was really surprised that that happened. He went after a phenomenal bill. …He just — I think he feels very badly that he said that, actually." “I was disappointed in him, but, you know, it is what it is,” Trump admitted while reacting to the question of how Musk seemed to treat the president “a bit like a father.” “That happens. Things like that happen. I don’t blame him for anything. I was a little disappointed," he furthered.
Will Trump and Musk patch up?
The tussle between the firebrands started after Musk criticised Trump’s ‘ Big Beautiful Bill ,’ which the Congressional Budget Office projects will add $3 trillion to the national debt over the next decade. While sharing his criticisms, Musk also took personal jabs against Trump, claiming that the POTUS was on the 'Epstein Files' and that Trump wouldn’t have won the 2024 election without his support.
“I guess I could, but we have to straighten out the country,” the president replied when asked if he and Musk could ever get back on good terms. “And my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it’s ever been. And I think we can do that.”
In response to Musk’s attacks, Trump told reporters that the billionaire had “lost his mind” and gone “crazy.” “The poor guy’s got a problem,” Trump told CNN of his onetime ally in a brief phone call Friday, without elaborating. When the New York Post asked Trump what problem Musk had, alluding to the Tesla CEO consuming drugs.

When asked about the fight between Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent , Trump rejected his former strategist Steve Bannon’s claim about physical altercations.
“Well, they had, not a fistfight, you know, but I guess they had a little bit of a shouting match,” the president told the New York Post. Meanwhile, Musk has since made several public overtures towards Trump , responding with a heart emoji to a video clip of the president wishing him “very well” at a White House event Monday.
