The rift between billionaire Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump just got bigger after the Tesla CEO dropped a bombshell, claiming that Trump has ties to convicted sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein. In an explosive post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk said that the POTUS is in the Epstein Files. The rift between the two friends started over policy differences. However, it eventually turned personal, leaving many surprised.

“Time to drop the massive bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public,” Musk wrote. “Have a nice day, DJT!” the billionaire ended his post by referring to Trump by his initials.

Minutes later, he followed up his revelation: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out." Several powerful personalities have been previously associated with Epstein, who died by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019. Names of the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, and former US President Bill Clinton were mentioned in the court document detailing the British financier’s decades of sexual abuse.

Trump’s changing stance on the Epstein files

Before Trump was elected in the November 2024 elections, he said that he would have  “no problem” in releasing files related to Epstein. Last year, he also denied having any connections to  Epstein. “I was never on Epstein’s Plane or at his ‘stupid’ Island. Strong Laws ought to be developed against AI. It will be a big and very dangerous problem in the future!” he wrote on his social media platform TruthSocial.

In a statement on Thursday evening, after Musk dropped the bomb, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the ongoing spat between the two power brands “an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted.”

“The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again,” Leavitt added. It is pertinent to note that Musk’s allegation came just minutes after Trump threatened to cancel government contracts with Musk’s companies, calling him “crazy” and escalating an explosive feud between the two former allies.

The world’s richest man was granted extraordinary access to Trump’s government after he was elected. However, he slammed the “big, beautiful” spending bill Trump is trying to push through Congress, drawing ire from the POTUS. In a separate post, the billionaire tech and media mogul also suggested that Trump would not have gotten elected last fall without him and called him ungrateful.
